Factual, presenter-led and booksAccurate, and still great television.
Factual programmes need to be exactly right and still entertaining. We check scripts for medical accuracy, open doors to hospitals and training centres, source equipment, and can appear on screen as an expert contributor.
Case study
James May: The Human Machine
For this Channel 5 series from Plum Pictures, James May explores the human body as an engineer would. Christopher worked across the whole production.
- Reviewed scripts for medical accuracy
- Helped simplify concepts without losing the science
- Sourced vascular devices for James to test
- Arranged access to a surgical training centre
- Advised on set throughout filming
- Appeared on screen as an expert contributor
Chris was a brilliant collaborator. As a factual TV series exploring the mechanics of the human body, we needed to be rigorously accurate at all times, and Chris was brilliant at helping us simplify concepts without losing the truth behind them. He immediately understood the playful style and worked with us to make sure everything was rooted in solid science, navigating the tightrope between drama and accuracy with grace.
He expanded some of our ideas, and helped us work through trickier details or sensitivities on others. When we hit stumbling blocks during prep he was generous with contacts, helping source medical apparatus, and opening doors with various medical institutions.
He was incredibly flexible- always quick to respond with short queries, but he also made time for a detailed consideration when needed. And of course he was a delight to have on set- and as an onscreen contributor! Clear, concise, charming, and funny. A fantastic addition to the team, and I can’t recommend working with him enough.
On screen
An expert who is comfortable on camera
If your programme needs a doctor or surgeon on screen to explain how the body works, what went wrong or how it is treated, Christopher can contribute directly. He is a practising NHS consultant surgeon and is used to explaining medicine clearly to non-specialists.
Books and manuscripts
Medical accuracy for authors
We also help novelists and screenwriters get the medicine right on the page, through manuscript assessments and answers to specific questions, without sacrificing the narrative arc.
Chris carried out a manuscript assessment of my work-in-progress, providing invaluable insights from his technical perspective. He served as a useful sounding board for the more complex issues in my book. His interest in narrative medicine and enthusiasm for my story gave me the impetus to press on towards publication.
